The Funleader 18mm f/8.0 Cap Lens is now available to buy for E, L, Z, RF and X mounts
It’s been a while since we heard about the Funleader 18mm f/8.0 cap lens. Launched last October through a well-backed Kickstarter campaign, this wide angle lens essentially just looks like a body cap for your camera. But it’s actually, as you might have guessed, an 18mm wide-angle lens.
Well, now the lenses have gone out to all of the Kickstarter backers and now it’s on general sale. Not only that, but as well as the original Sony E and Leica L mount flavours, it’s now also available for Nikon Z, Canon RF and Fuji X mounts, too.
Given the form factor, it’s a super slim and lightweight lens, with no electronic components. It also has no autofocus. In fact, it doesn’t even have manual focusing abilities. It relies on hyperfocal distance to create the maximum depth of field possible at all times, and you just have to shoot with that in mind.
|Field of view||100° (full-frame)|
|Minimum focus distance||80cm|
|Construction||6 elements in 4 groups|
|Size||62mm x 15mm|
|Mounts||Sony E, Leica L, Nikon Z, Canon RF, Fuji X|
Looking at the sample images on the lens’ product page, it looks like the lens is designed primarily as a street photography lens when you want to capture the whole wide scene around you – after all 100° is a pretty wide field of view, wider than many might choose to use for street photography. But when paired with a smaller mirrorless body, it allows it to easily slip in and out of your pocket when needed.
Inside the box, you’ll get the Funleader 18mm f/8 Cap Lens, a round case to keep it in when you’re not using it and a user manual. All five mount versions cost $199.98 and are available to buy now, which to me seems a little pricey.
But, it looks like they have a sale on right now to get it for $149.98. There only seems to be a few hours left at that price, though. The lenses appear to be shipping from China and take 2-4 weeks to be delivered to the US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and EU countries, and 2-6 weeks for the rest of the world.
